Iconic Models from Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz spent a lot of time pushing the boundaries of the automotive industry, and the results are pretty clear. Over the years, the automaker created vehicles that not only performed well, but that also changed the industry at large. These iconic models are ingrained in the history of the car community and continue to spark interest years later. The team here at Mercedes-Benz of Annapolis has put together some of our favorite Mercedes-Benz vehicles throughout the years to celebrate how far the brand has come.

Benz Patent Motor Car

This model isn’t just an icon for Mercedes-Benz, this model is an icon for the entire automotive industry. The first patented car, the 1886 Benz Patent Motor Car was the first modern car. Equipped with a one cylinder, four-stroke engine that produced 0.75 horsepower and had a top speed of 10 miles per hour, the two-seat, three-wheeled vehicle is a great representation of how far automobiles and the Mercedes-Benz brand has come since this first model.

G-Class

Created for military and civilian use in 1979, the G-Class, or G-Wagen as it was originally known, offered distinct styling, impressive capability, and luxurious interior. Today, the G-Class still offers all of these things, with modern technology and features like active LED headlights, 64-color ambient lighting, electric power steering, and adjustable suspension damping. The G-Class also features modern power, with 416 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque from the biturbo V8.

300 SL

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL production car was based on the 1952 race car. It even featured the same gullwing doors that made the race car version so eye-catching. This classic sports car featured a six-cylinder engine and four-speed transmission. The direct fuel injection helped the car gain 40 horsepower over a carbureted version of the same engine. Though this model was only produced for four short years, the style and refinement found in the 300 SL are still present today. The design language of this model lives on in the retired SLS AMG and the new AMG GT R.

Today, Mercedes-Benz is one of the largest car manufacturers in the world and continues to create vehicles that push the industry to the next level. If you’re ready to own what is sure to become a cornerstone of automotive history, take a look at our new inventory and then reach out to our team to schedule a test drive today.
