2022 Mercedes-Benz SL Roadster

Overview

The 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL Roadster continues a storied tradition that stretches all the way back to the marvelous 1955 300 SL Gullwing. The newest generation of SL Roadsters rides on an entirely new architecture with an assortment of improvements, including the increased use of composite materials for added strength and lightness. The new architecture also allows for true 2+2 seating. Reflecting its sporting intentions, the new roadster comes as a Mercedes-AMG-badged product.

The Perfect Ride For…

Buyers who crave a combination of endless luxury and epic performance will fall in love with the 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL Roadster. The exterior is a near-perfect callback to the first generation of SL roadsters and coupes. The SL Roadster also does away with the previous generation’s power-folding hardtop roof in place of an electric-powered soft top – another nod to the SL Roadster’s course-conquering past. Inside, buyers will find an interior that’s lavishly appointed while remaining true to its performance-oriented roots.

An 11.9-inch multimedia touch screen display provides infotainment and navigation while a digital cockpit with both digital and simulated analog features provides vital driver information. Interior options include single- and two-tone Nappa leather upholstery and Nappa leather combined with DINAMICA RACE microfiber with one’s choice of red or yellow stitching. Front passengers wanting to enjoy top-down fun without discomfort will appreciate the built-in deflector, which prevents wind from hitting the back of their necks while driving.

Drive and Handling

Motivation for the 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL Roadster comes via a pair of 4.0L biturbo V8 engines, both handcrafted by AMG engineers and both mated with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9-speed transmission. The standard SL55 enjoys a power rating of 469 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. A burlier version of the 4.0L biturbo V8 can be found under the hood of the SL63, where it belts out an impressive 577 horsepower and an incredible 590 pound-feet of torque. The AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system helps put the power down while providing confidence-inspiring traction under varying road and weather conditions.

The 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL Roadster also comes with multiple AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive modes, allowing drivers to fine-tune their motoring experience to suit their desires. The SL55 comes equipped with AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension with adaptive damping adjustment, while the SL63 features an active version of the same system with active anti-roll stabilization for enhanced handling and ride comfort. An active rear-axle steering system allows for sharper cornering and improved overall responsiveness.

Key Features

Electric Soft Top

Following in the tire tracks of its iconic ancestors, the 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL Roadster comes with an electrically-powered folding soft top. With just the push of a button, drivers can drop the soft top in 15 seconds, even while traveling at speeds of up to 37 mph. Even if it’s chilly outside, features like zoned seat heating lets occupants remain warm and comfortable as they enjoy their top-down cruising.

Safety Features

No Mercedes is complete without a full complement of safety and driver assistance features and the 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL Roadster is no exception. Available safety features include Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, and Active Brake Assist with Cross Traffic Alert. ATTENTION ASSIST watches for signs of fatigued or distracted driving and uses both audible and visual alerts to encourage drivers to take a break.
